NanoPublishing is a term that was coined to define blogging, podcasting, email newsletters and any other form of web based self expression. The term defines the concept of individual publishing in a way that allows us to understand the responsibility and the work involved in the process of publishing.
These are notes from a presentation that ScientistSuperstar produced to explain the process of nanopublishing and its relevance to business.
NanoPublishing represents the individual within the process of New Media.
NanoPublishing is "Starting a Buzz"
The word Buzz, makes one think of Bees, of hive like communal behavior.
Bees are social creatures. Bad News travels faster and further than good news. People say that Goodwill isn't worth anything anymore.
But, a company with "Don't be Evil" in their corporate mission statement has seen their stock price Double, Triple, and Quadruple.
We are living in the era of Google. The web is not the internet.
The web is an interconnected living organism. Google knows how to effect this creature. Like any organism, this organism survives on what it consumes.
Information.
We are social creatures living within a web of what we know. We would like to believe that what we do not know does not affect us. Or does it?
If some unknown corporation springs out of nowhere by using tools that we did not understand, Does what we do not know affect us then?
In this global marketplace, we must use all of our resources.
In "the world is flat" Thomas Friedman said,
"If you can do it,
you must do it,
or your competition will do it."
Your competition will compete with you. Every one of us in business is in business for one reason.
You have a customer.
You have customers, But each of your customers receives their services one at a time.
Businesses and businessmen fail for one simple reason alone.
A relationship failed. - because,
Some important detail was missed. - therefore,
A paradigm shifted, or did not shift.
A few years ago, the catch phrase that was going around the technology industry was "paradigm shift" I remember seeing a Dilbert cartoon that made fun of this trend.
Paradigms do not shift because people say the word, That would be like finding a pound of profound.
They shift because people actually start using their tools in new ways.
Paradigms are projections that we all carry within our individual minds.
Keeping our paradigms in alignment, so that we can shift them when we need to is how we keep our relationships healthy.
Being flexible is how we can successfully take risks and predict the future needs of our customers. Any tool that increases our ability to see things from another's point of view is a benefit to business.
The tool itself represents a paradigm shift that we can take full advantage of.
The paradigm shift that is happening right now is happening on the web.
Over half of web activity is being used by social networking websites. Rupert Murdoch's Myspace is one of the hottest properties on the web today.
Social Networking works because Human Beings are not as fascinated by websites as they are by Human Beings.
Human interaction is the purpose of the web.
Buzz
So, how does NanoPublishing Facilitate this process?
In "The Tipping Point", Malcolm Gladwell laid out two important personalities necessary to make an idea "go viral". Mavens are people who know a great deal about a subject. Connectors are people that know a great deal of people. Using the best of our abilities to work within these personalities is key to making an idea "go viral"
NanoPublishing is a process that creates a perfect environment for this phenomenon.
In this workshop, we will teach you how to successfully bring real business related Human interaction to the web.
Your business needs a balance of creative potential - security - convenience - and reliability in order to find success.

Google's stock has doubled, tripled and quadrupled since their IPO. Google has a "high level of IQ", according to Bill Gates .
How does Google operate? How can we "Reverse Engineer Google" if Bill Gates cannot do it?
If we do, how can we profit from it?
Google operates in a publicly known system called "PageRank" This quote is taken directly from Google's original research paper written in Stanford by Sergey Brin and Larry Page.
| The Google search engine has two important features that help it produce high precision results. First, it makes use of the link structure of the Web to calculate a quality ranking for each web page. This ranking is called PageRank and is described in detail in [Page 98]. Second, Google utilizes link to improve search results. |
This is how PageRank operates. People linking to people. Not some obscure process that is difficult to understand, but an obvious means of understanding the value that people place on information.
People have to create links. Computers host the information. Computers search for the information. This is all based on algorithms and hardware. The linking represents the fabric of our Humanity. How we choose to link to things is how we define the value of a piece of information.
Most of us do not create links. Most of us are consumers. We depend on Web Developers and automated systems to create the links between web sites. At some level, the links are what are important.
In order to Reverse Engineer Google, we need to be able to start creating content.
Blogging has made it possible for anyone to create web page content. Blogging has increased the ability for people to link to information that matters to them. This makes Google's PageRank more relevant.
Blogging is not for everyone. Blogging is important for this understanding of search technology. Blogging is a tool that allows people to create journals. Journaling can be powerful, such as the "Diary of Anne Frank".
The importance of Blogging is in the efficiency of scale that these tools have created. There are hundreds of free blogging tools available. These tools are becoming easier and easier to use. This provides an opportunity for us to utilize these tools as a way of Reverse Engineering Google.
Google operates by accepting our terms and locating pages that seem relevant to the keywords that we gave it for input.
A message needs to be created that is useful to an audience that may need to hear the message. The audience is just as important as the message.
In order to form a message, we should start small. We should begin with people that we know. We should seek out people who are also connected to this message. Google's PageRank has to do with large numbers of people. Our individuality will keep us from finding the truth in our message. Once there is an audience, then the message can be developed. Once the message is developed, the message will be used to Reverse Engineer Google.
This website is demonstration of this concept. As you see on the right hand side, there are a number of links. These links are automatically fed from blogging tools that this web site feeds from. As these blogs are updated, so are the links on this front page.
The blogs that this site links to are secure systems. Without acceptance to the group that is collaborating on a project, the page appears empty. These tools also allow for filesharing and podcasting abilities.
This web site project is to make this process evident. We are teaching people how to create secure communities that act as development centers unto themselves as a means of creating a public message in relationship to the group needs.
The process that we teach is simple to implement and integrate into any web site as well.
Beyond the technology, this process creates stronger groups. Anytime that a leader can create a system that allows for open communication within a secure set of people, the group will benefit. These tools allow a group to gain a historical perspective of themselves and their progress.
Google seaches for information based on Keywords. At every level within this training, we provide the ability to "tag" items. This logical grouping signals important key words about the information.
We teach people how to use a tool that allows a person to organize their bookmarks on a free website tool. This tool allows the person to organize all of their bookmarks and then feed these bookmarks into the group site. This is accomplished by the use of tagging systems. This is the exact opposite of Google. Instead of putting tags in and getting results out, this allows a person to put results into tags.
We are used to directory based organizational systems. Every object in our filing cabinet can only be in one file. In a database, one object can have many tags. This is a powerful tool that is under-utilized by most people on the web today. This tool alone is of great benefit to most people.
The tag itself becomes a source of information. We can teach a person to setup a tool that feeds their organized information automatically into a group review process.
People are often finding things that they regard as important to share with others. Our process teaches people how to share these pieces of information while keeping the information within the context of the group.
